The Challenge
Three home service businesses — plumbing, HVAC, and electrical — were running Google Ads with a shared agency that treated them identically. CPL was $180+ per lead, ROAS was 1.4×, and the campaigns had zero geographic differentiation despite serving distinct ZIP code clusters.
What We Did
Account audit & restructure
Separated all three accounts. Built ZIP-code-level ad groups for each city cluster. Created separate campaigns for emergency services (24/7) vs. scheduled maintenance vs. installation.
Call-only & responsive ads
Deployed call-only ads for emergency intent keywords ("burst pipe repair now", "AC not working"). Built responsive search ads for planned services with 15+ headline variants each.
Negative keyword buildout
Added 400+ negative keywords including DIY, YouTube, free, and competitor brand terms that were wasting 22% of budget.
Landing page per service type
Created dedicated landing pages for each service category with local trust signals, review badges, and ZIP-specific headlines. Conversion rate went from 4% to 11%.
Bid strategy rotation
Ran Target CPA bidding for stable service types, Maximize Conversions for emergency campaigns during peak weather periods. Adjusted bids by time-of-day for highest-intent windows.
Results
“We had tried three agencies before AddMads. None of them understood local service businesses. Within 60 days our phone was ringing non-stop — at half the cost.”
